Just a reminder on the topics tested for mid yrs if any of u have not seen it @ the portal. (:

Chemistry

1) Atoms, Molecules and Stoichiometry

2) Redox

3) Atomic Structure

4) Chemical Bonding

5) The Gaseous State

6) Chemical Energetics


JC1 Mid Year Examination consists of two papers.



Paper 1 Multiple Choice (20 Marks) Duration: 35 minutes

Section A: 15 direct choice questions

Section B: 5 multiple completion questions



Paper 2 Structured and Free Response (60 marks) Duration: 1 hour 40 minutes

Section A: 4 structured questions including a planning component

For the planning component, candidates will be asked to provide experimental details to carry out one of the following: acid-base titration, redox titration, gravimetric analysis, gas collection experiment or chemical energetics experiment.

Section B: 2 free response questions



About 40% of the questions in Mid Year Examination are taken from Ten Year Series (2008 Edition). You are highly encouraged to do the questions and seek clarification with your tutor when in doubt.

Chapter 1: Differentiation Techniques
Chapter 2: Application of Differentiation
Chapter 3: Maclaurin’s series
Chapter 4: Binomial Expansion
Chapter 5: Graphing Techniques (Basic)
Chapter 6: Functions
Chapter 7: Graphing Techniques (Transformation)
Chapter 8: Inequalities and Equations

Paper
- One paper only
- 2 hr
- All questions compulsory
- Formulae list and writing papers will be provided during the examination.
- Remember to bring your GC
(NO loan set will be provided).
- Ensure GC batteries are strong enough for resetting via “Press-To-Test”.
(GCs which cannot be reset will NOT be allowed in exams.)

Biology

Topics covered:
1. Cell Structure
2. Cell membrane and transport
3. Carbohydrates
4. Lipids
5. Proteins
6. Enzymes
7. Cell and nuclear division
8. DNA structure and replication

Structure of papers:
Paper 1: 40 Multiple Choice Questions. All compulsory. [40 marks]
Paper 2: 6 structured questions. All compulsory. [60 marks]
2 choose 1 essay. [15 marks]
Total: 75 marks
(Please manage your time well, especially for Paper 2)
Tips:
1. Do not begin the paper from the front. Look through all the questions quickly and answer those that you are most confident in first.
2. Do not leave any blanks. Make educated guesses and at least write some answers down.
3. Practice your TYS.
4. Revise your lecture notes, tutorial and any assignments given to you.
5. Do not do last minute studying, you WILL NOT do well.
6. Treat this exam seriously, it will contribute 20% to your overall grade and can affect your promotion to JC 2.
Note: You are allowed to bring your graphing calculator. However, the memory must be re-set. You will be told to do so at the start of the exam.
